ORIGEM Raizes Douradas
Inspired by my first acrylic painting, the ORIGEM Raizes Douradas series is an invitation to celebrate yourself and the world around you.
In 2022, I picked up a 20 cm round canvas and some acrylic paints for the first time. I painted a small map of Africa, expecting little to nothing from it...but the process surprised me. As the piece evolved, so did my perspective. I started seeing my continent, and myself as an African woman, in a new light: revisiting our values, our wounds, our strength.
Nothing felt quite right until I added metallic gold. Suddenly everything clicked. It reflected the richness of Africa—not just its resources, but its spirit—and the disconnect between how it’s seen and what it truly is.
I created a few more pieces that year, experimenting with backgrounds and textures. And in 2025, I felt called to return to that style and expand the idea to individual countries.
As a Mozambican woman who has traveled the world, each place I’ve lived in or visited has left an imprint on me. This series is a tribute to those places, the people I’ve met, the cultures that shaped me, and the moments that made me grow. My wish is to pass that warmth on to you. May you always remember your worth.
The goal: paint every country in the world-including unrecognized regions and their islands-by June 2026. Will we succeed? Let's find out together. Join the experience.

PALOPS & LUSOS
THE COUNTRIES I LIVED IN...
Between the ages of 10 and 18 I lived in 5 different countries. Besides Mozambique, I also lived in : France, Armenia, Jordan and the Phillipinnes (in that order). Growing up on the go was both challenging and rewarding. Every country I have been to, and every culture I interacted with along the way taught me valuable lessons I will always carry with me. Looking back now, as an adult, I consider myself lucky to have experienced an atypical teenagehood that shaped me into the woman I am today. Matter of fact, this small detail is probably subconsciously tied to why I started painting maps lol
THE CONTRIES I VISITED...
WE ALSO GOT...
COMING NEXT...
Being one of Mozambiques' neighbhoors, South Africa was the very first country I visited. Has you might notice, unlike the other countries, this one got it's own individual color. Purple was the color attributed to the social justice movement against womens' feminicide in South Africa. Like I mentioned before, I started this series with the intention of celebrating cultures through geography and wouldn't miss the occassion to celebrate our south african sisters who stood up and showed us the power of unity and social media movements online. Thank you for those who continue raising awareness and fighting for women and childrens' safety around the world.

The countries listed here all belong to the lusophone community (a.k.a those who speak portuguese), including my own country Mozambique. A fun fact many don't know is that the majority of countries that speak portuguese are located in Africa. We call them palop (Mozambique, Angola, Cape Verde, Guiné Bissau and Sao Tomé & Principe). Here's their individual shapes :
Out of all countries I painted so far, China is the only one I have no particular ties to. It all came down to a randow desire of including it with the first ones because of its important number of people and influence and I ended up loving the result. The shape is beautiful and the red and gold came out perfect on this one.
